Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the Physiology Club! We are always excited to welcome new students and we highly appreciate your desire to become involved! Being a part of the Physiology Club is a great opportunity for pre-health students to be active within the community, get to know other students in their major/field of study, and make connections with faculty! Being in a club shows leadership, commitment, and willingness to serve others - all great qualities to have that graduate schools will be looking for in future applicants!

Read below to find out more about how to be a member of our club!

How to Join

Follow these simple steps:

1. Join our listserv! Let any of the officers know that you are interested in joining the club by emailing either Gia Balsamo  at giabalsamo@arizona.edu or Jenny Partin at jpartin11@arizona.edu. You will be added to the listserv so that you are aware of upcoming events and future speakers.

2. Pay $5 membership dues per semester at the meeting. Your dues and event attendance will be logged on a Google doc.

3. Monday Meeting Attending Members:

Attend 4 of the 7 in-person meetings a semester and one event from each category, 1 physiology event, 1 philanthropy event, 1 clinical event, 1 fundraising event, 1 social event, 1 current topics event, and 1 academic event to be considered active. Wildcard events (career and development events) can count towards any category of your choice. The events will be sent out in emails and please be aware of Google doc sign-up sheets. Make sure to check out our Upcoming Events to find out more!

Non-Meeting Attending Members:

Attend one event from each category including 1 physiology event, 1 clinical event, 1 philanthropy event, 1 fundraising event, 1 social event, 1 academic event, 1 current topics event, AND 2 wildcard events (example: Career and Development events) to be considered active.

4. Have fun! Make connections with faculty! Your connections will come in handy when applying to graduate school! Lots of Medical Schools/Grad Schools want at least one letter of recommendation from a science professor and luckily our faculty advisor just happens to be Dr. Zoe Cohen, a well-known Physiology professor on campus. Use your resources!

7 Physiology Club Chairs:

Physiology: Physiology events encompass pre-health-related tours, outreach events, and seminars. The aim of these events is to inform members of all things pre-health, giving members vital information on interview skills, laboratory settings, and more. Some examples of past events include research lab tours on campus, multiple mini-interview seminars, and a tour of campus health and athletic facilities.

Clinical: The goal of the clinical chair is to bring members hands-on experiences from the healthcare field. We will participate in events such as suture clinics, CPR certifications, and ASTEC lab simulations. These clinical events will also provide members access to career workshops such as resume-building and personal statement writing.

Philanthropy: The Philanthropy chair sets out to involve members in the Tucson community. Past events include: packing food for the Tucson Community Food Bank, volunteering at the Out of Darkness Walk for suicide awareness, cooking food for the Ronald McDonald House shelter, and spending time with children from Casa de Los Niños. The goal of these events is to serve the Tucson community and aid members in finding organizations they may want to continue working with.

Social: The Social chair will hold events to bring members closer to one another and to help form more connections within the club. Some social events to look forward to include group hiking, club dinner, and board game night.

Academic: The purpose of academic events is to help members from the same classes meet each other and study together. Older members and officers who have already taken the core sciences classes are always there to help those with questions. Snacks, drinks, and a fun learning environment will be provided!

Current Topics: The current topics chair is meant to expose members to relevant news within the medical field for future interactions and for personal knowledge. This can be done in many ways where members can discuss certain current topics in articles or in the news.

Career and Development: The career and development chair's job is to provide help for members who have questions about their future careers in medicine. This may include Mock MMI's, practice interviews, etc.
